Ngā Māia Ki Te Taranaki Taranaki rōpū of 8 are in our early stages. We consist of 3 midwives and 5 midwifery students. We have been slowly connecting and getting to know each other. Several members attended the Hui-A-Tau last year. Working around shift work, administrative work, placements and maternity leave, we endeavor to continue our gatherings through kaitahi and midwifery & tikanga related activities.

Firstly, we want to acknowledge and give a big mihi to Julie Robb – O’Connell māori midwife, who bought Ngā Maia o Manawatū into the rohe. Originally within the Dannevirke region her work laid the foundation and enabled the momentum for the establishment and work to continue through Ngā Māia O Tararua Ngā Pae Maunga since 2022. We are based in Te Papaioea, and include the Manawatū, Horowhenua, Tararua and Rangitikei areas.
We hold monthly hui at chosen midwifery clinic rooms. Our yearly event planner this year has included, Hāputanga wānanga, Matariki celebrations with a scenario and debrief session, Waiata practice, and hui with stakeholders within our rohe.
We have an active facebook page for our māori midwives and tauira in these regions, and regular emails are sent to keep everyone informed.
Please contact us through our email page.

Historically known as "Māori Midwifery Roopu", Māori Midwives ki Tahu re-established in 2019 with a new name that represents the takiwa of Tahu Potiki in which we live and work.
We meet monthly and represent our rohe in various roles across the midwifery profession.
We have approximately 60 members and this includes our tangata tiriti allies and our tauira.
Our office bearers are Candice Cleave, and Jay Waretini-Beaumont.
