We are pleased to let you know that national guidelines for newborn pulse oximetry screening are now available at: https://www.tewhatuora.govt.nz/publications/pulse-oximetry-screening-guidelines-for-newborn-babies/

Pulse oximetry is a simple and non-invasive screening tool that can help detect critical congenital heart disease in newborn babies before the onset of symptoms.

We know that many Districts have already implemented newborn pulse oximetry screening. National guidelines have been developed to support all Districts to implement this screening, providing a consistent and evidence-based protocol for everyone to follow. A data collection form and information sheet for parents and wh?nau are also available on the Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora website.

Thank you to all those who have provided input and feedback to support the development of the guidelines.

If you have a non-urgent query about the guidelines, please email: antenatalnewbornscreening@tewhatuora.govt.nz

Clinical queries or concerns should be raised immediately with your District medical team.

Please share this information with your colleagues and/or members as appropriate.
