Te Whatu Ora New Zealand has contracted The New Zealand College of Sexual and Reproductive Health (NZCSRH) to provide long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARC) training support, through our Train the Trainer course. The aim of this initiative is to increase workforce capability and improve access to LARCs. We recently requested that funding be made available to all midwives, and Te Whatu Ora has agreed to this.

To be eligible for the course, midwives must already be competent in LARC procedures as per the Long-Acting Reversible Contraception: Health Practitioner Training Principles and Standards and want to train others.

NZCRSH will be running two ?Train-the Trainer? courses in the South Island during August: Invercargill on Saturday 19 August 2023 Christchurch on Sunday 20 August 2023. We will also be holding courses in Wellington and Hawkes Bay later this year (dates still to be finalised), and across the motu until 2025.

Upon completion of the training, trainers can provide training in LARC procedures to others in their workplaces/networks. In addition, funding is available for trainers to conduct training at high-needs practices that meet Te Whatu Ora requirements but cannot send a participant to a Train-the-Trainer course.?
