As an important stakeholder in Aotearoa New Zealand?s maternity services, we want to notify you that we intend to continue with the Business Contribution Payment for new graduate midwives (NGBCP) who have started in LMC practice. We will shortly be updating the information on our website in this regard. You will find information about the NGBCP here. For the 2023/24 year, the NGBCP will be a one-off flat rate payment of $5000 (excl GST).
New graduate midwives must contact Te Whatu Ora to inquire about eligibility by emailing primarymaternity@health.govt.nz or by contacting the Customer Service team on 0800 855 066 or by email at customerservice@health.govt.nz.
If the new graduate midwife is eligible, a Letter of Offer will be sent out to them which must be returned to initiate this one-off payment.
For new graduates LMC midwives the eligibility criteria are:
- be New Zealand trained and have graduated from a New Zealand training institution after 1 January 2023
- have first registered with the Midwifery Council of New Zealand after 1 January 2023
- have applied for and received an authorisation to claim for primary maternity services under the Primary Maternity Services Notice 2021 (the Notice) from te Whatu Ora
- intend to provide primary maternity services under the Notice, as indicated by your intention to provide full LMC services to at least one woman post receiving your authorisation to claim
- not have previously claimed or been send a BCP offer.
